Findings
Our range of findings includes all the basic items that one would expect to find as well as a good range of specially chosen items that may not be readily available elsewhere.
Base Metal
This range includes silver and gold plated items as well as copper, brass, bronze and black oxide. We call these our “Economy Range”.
Sterling Silver is an alloy of silver containing 92.5% by weight of silver and 7.5% by weight of other metals, usually copper and nickel. The sterling silver has a minimum fineness of 925 and so will often be listed as 925 silver. Fine silver (99.9%) is very soft and is therefore unsuitable for items that must wear well.
Silver findings will tarnish in time but can be restored with a special polishing cloth – we stock The silver may be mixed with other metals and recently new alloys such as Argentium Sterling Silver formulated to inhibit tarnish.
Gold Fill also known as rolled gold, is used for quality findings and contains 100% more gold than gold-plated findings. Gold-filled products are regulated by the government and must be at least 5% gold by weight.
Rolled gold is made by forming a tube of solid 14kt gold that is "filled" with a base metal. The gold is bonded to the base metal with heat and pressure. The base metal is also gold in colour and is made of a similar mixture. The exterior of the item is solid 14 kt gold so all you see and touch is a solid layer of 14kt gold. This is why it does not tarnish, chip or wear off.
Claspgarten Clasps
We are proud to offer these precision-made German clasps that conform to strict European standards. They offer 23 carat gold-plated clasps as well as sterling silver and rhodium plated items.
Rhodium is one of the most expensive precious metals in the world. It is up to 10 times as expensive as gold. Rhodium has a bright silver colour and is known for its hardness and anticorrosive character. The Rhodium plating gives our clasps a long lasting beautiful surface.
All Claspgarten clasps are nickel free and the stones used are genuine Swarovski crystals.
While these clasps are a little more expensive than the others we offer, they are so beautiful that you will find yourself inspired to use them as the focal point of your special creations.
